New management system

Objective

Development of a fully integrated technological model employing business and artificial intelligence tools.

Description of the project

An analysis of the AS IS situation revealed it to be generally unreliable, due to a lack of communications between the central system and departmental systems; this led to a considerable waste of resources which, in the context of continuous improvement, has generated major inefficiencies.

We therefore assessed a variety of options to identify the most organic solution, in two ways:

A) Analysis, development and integration in real time of the central management system (Business Central) with the various departmental systems (automated logistics, document management, external sales force management, remote banking) in order to optimise the entire supply chain.

B) Introduction of a Business Intelligence system employing artificial intelligence, represented by the Sales Forecasting & Prediction module of the new management system. The data about each sector collected by the central management system – big data – populate a database which is then analysed using AI so as to optimise warehouse stocks and reorders. With respect to this part of the project, which is focused on the AI component, our management system creates a consumption forecast that helps the purchasing department to plan the company’s procurement.

Results

Having an integrated system and continuously updated data has enabled us to reduce the impact of activities considered not only of low added value but also very error prone (for example, as regards the flow of communications with clients), and thus use our resources more efficiently.

The project is funded by European Funds for the Emilia-Romagna Region
